Local not for profit disability enterprise, The Flagstaff Group, is continuing to recognise the importance of being a learning organisation for people with disability and has launched a new program aimed at providing training, support and after school work opportunities for people with disability who are looking for their first part time job.
The new Flagstaff Futures program will invite school students with disability to apply for part time work in either Flagstaff’s Unanderra or Shoalhaven sites and is ideal for people aged 15-17 years. Part time work will provide a great introduction to work, include a paid three hour shift from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm as well as a 12 hour work skills training course.
Hearing about the program, local Year 11 student, James was first to put up his hand. James’s mum and dad work locally in Unanderra and believe the program is good experience for James.
James works for three hours and learns new work skills under the guidance of a support team. On this first day, an excited James worked in the Flagstaff Laundry and already made some new friends.
Job support is provided through NDIS funding.
