Resilience Crusaders is a Flagstaff initiative funded by the Department of Communities and Justice. The project aims to improve the communication barriers between individuals with disabilities and emergency personnel during emergency situations.
The first phase of the project was designed to upskill people with disability in public speaking skills.
This enabled them to become Resilience Crusaders who can confidently participate in supported discussions with councils, emergency services and community organisations in the second phase of the project.
Phase two of the project saw people with disability involved in discussions with these organisations and service providers to inform and educate about disability awareness in emergency situations. A suite of training materials and tools is also being developed.
Flagstaff hosted a series of free workshops funded by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice to assist people with disability in public speaking.
Delivered by Positive Psychology Coach and Educator, Jodie Cooper the three workshop series helped participants to:
“Resilience Crusaders gave me the confidence and raised us up to be strong”
“Building confidence is like a whirlpool. Start at the bottom and strive your way up”
“When you need to speak in public, it’s helpful to write notes out first about what you want to speak about”
