Activation Hub – Retail and Hospitality

“My name is Dianne Weir and I have recently signed up to participate in the Activation Hub program at Gateway Life in Wollongong, run by The Flagstaff Group.

I decided to undertake the Activation Hub program so I can brush up on my barista skills having once worked at the teahouse at the Nan Tien temple.

On Tuesdays we are in the classroom to learn theory, but we also take turns learning how to make coffees on the expresso machine. On Fridays I do the practical component and work experience and serve customers in the café.

We learn how long it takes for coffee to be extracted, the different types of coffee, where it comes from, the different parts of the machine, how to texture the milk, get a nice crème and so on.

So far it has been a great course. I really like my teacher, and I am enjoying it.

Everyone is so supportive of one another and we cheer each other on.

The customers are lovely and so are the staff.”
