Flagstaff has created “We Belong” to support people with a disability to share their story about the barriers or challenges they have in joining groups or activities in the community. The program will be co-designed with people with a disability using a variety of formats like videos, podcasts, blogs, articles or presentations where you can provide the information you want to speak about.
Flagstaff wants to help you feel confident to try something you have always wanted to do and just can’t seem to jump that hurdle to participate.
‘We Belong’ will work with you to create activities, workshops, tools and resources that will support your abilities when you choose to speak up and join a group, activity or start chats with other people.
Focus groups will be used to help the We Belong team find out more about what holds you back and design supports to assist you and others.
The We Belong project will also involve the community. This portion of the program will involve Flagstaff working with organisations to discover the challenges holding them back from providing an inclusive and welcoming setting for people with a disability.
Flagstaff has a wealth of experience in this area and can help with the following:
The program addresses the social inclusion obstacles for people with a disability and connects community organisations to the knowledge of real-life stories and challenges to participation.
Collaboration, partnerships and targeted focus groups will be used to gain a better insight into barriers that may exist in organisations.
Flagstaff will be co-designing the program with the help of people with a disability to amplify their voices. The initiatives will be used to build confidence and capacity when people with a disability are joining groups and activities in the community.
A Commonwealth Individualised Grant funds the ‘We Belong’ project to support people with a disability, their families and carers to participate, contribute and benefit from mainstream community activities. These include the arts, culture, sport and recreation.
Flagstaff are working closely with Resilience Crusaders and stakeholders to provide a program that will change attitudes. Creating tools and resources that will benefit both people with a disability and organisations to connect.
This grant is provided as part of the Australian Government Department of Social Services Information Linkages and Capacity Building program.
