Recovery efforts are continuing at pace after the fire that occurred in one of our main buildings on Boxing Day 2024 at the 254 Nolan Street, Unanderra site.
Thankfully, no one was on the premises during the fire and there were no injuries because of the incident. The fire caused considerable damage to the Flagstaff Commercial Laundry packing and despatch area and Fine Foods social enterprises.
Flagstaff CEO, Rodney Von Clark said, “We have swiftly adapted to maintain our operations and implemented our Business Continuity Plan.”
“The Flagstaff Laundry used other laundry facilities to assist and established a temporary packing and despatch area to support our clients. A temporary structure is being assembled next to our main laundry building and once services are restored we will be back to capacity.”
“Unfortunately, our Fine Foods enterprise had significant damage, and smoke and water have affected production spaces. We are working on strategies for moving forward.”
Flagstaff has organised additional programs and supports to encourage our employees to keep connected, upskilled and engaged with programs including Access2Work, our We Belong community inclusion program, Job Launchpad, and Pathfinders.
Rod commended the efforts of staff, “The resilience and teamwork displayed by our employees during this challenging time have been nothing short of extraordinary. Their dedication to maintaining our services and supporting one another has allowed us to adapt quickly and ensure that we continue to serve our community. I am incredibly proud of the strength and commitment shown by the entire Flagstaff team.”
“Many people have asked how they can support Flagstaff during this time. We invite businesses, the public, and community groups to support Flagstaff by:
- Supporting and using our Commercial Laundry, Print, Mail & Digital, Grounds Maintenance, Cleaning and Paper and Cardboard recycling services.
- Partnering with us by offering employment opportunities through our Access2Work program for staff with disabilities, especially as some roles have been affected. Even one or two days a week can make a significant impact, and we can provide support during the onboarding and training process.
- Providing work experience.
- Hosting a tour of your business as part of Flagstaff’s skill-building program.
- If you are a community group, invite and host inclusive activities for Flagstaff’s team members at your organisation so they can enjoy meeting new people, trying new hobbies or sports through our We Belong program.
- Sponsoring a program
- Donating whitegoods as we rebuild temporary staff areas such as new fridges, microwaves, lunchroom furniture, fans and sensory equipment.
- Making a donation to Flagstaff via the link on the Flagstaff website.
Your support is invaluable in helping Flagstaff continue providing opportunities and services for people with disability and we welcome businesses and the community to contact Flagstaff to discuss any support ideas.”
