Flagstaff Warming Hearts Initiative Supports Vinnies

Flagstaff employees, staff and Life Choices participants had a wonderful morning at the Vinnies Warming Hearts Handover event, an initiative created this year by a number of Flagstaff staff to support the St Vincent de Paul Society. After taking part in the CEO Sleepout for the past 7 years, as well as our Paper to Paper division recently signing on to transport recycling bins to Vinnies’ new Container Deposit Centre, Flagstaff has been looking for new ways to build on their support for Vinnies and the important work they do helping the homeless.

The Warming Hearts initiative is a winter woolly drive asking Flagstaff employees, staff and families to donate warm clothing items and blankets for distribution to those who need it most, especially during the recent cold nights. Donation bins were placed around all Flagstaff sites, with the Warming Hearts mascot ‘Henry the Heart’ reminding everyone to clear out their cupboards and make a donation!

Vinnies Van representative Amanda visited Flagstaff Life Choices Hub this morning to accept the items, saying “We are blown away by the response and how many items you’ve collected. This will make such a difference to the lives of people who are experiencing homelessness in our community”. Amanda showed participants and staff the Vinnies Van, explaining how it is used to provide warm meals and clothing items, offering support to rough sleepers and others in need of assistance across the region.

This is the first year the Warming Hearts initiative has run and there was an overwhelmingly positive response. A total of 171 items were collected for the Vinnies Van:

  • 89 x coats
  • 28 x beanies
  • 9 x pairs of gloves
  • 23 x blankets
  • 21 x scarves
  • 1 x leg warmers

Thank you to the Life Choices team who counted and sorted all these items and packed them up ready for the handover to Vinnies. This was big job as there were 6 large bags and 8 boxes full of warm items for donation!

Thank you to our staff Ali (People & Culture), Rachael (Life Choices), and Amy (Sales & Marketing) for working with Vinnies organising this initiative, and to every employee, staff, and participant that donated items. A special mention as well to Laundry employee Graham Weekes who knitted some scarves to donate.

Flagstaff looks forward to doing another Warming Hearts drive next year and continuing to support Vinnies fantastic work!
