Donate a 5ver to Flagstaff! — Giving Tuesday
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Flagstaff is asking the community to support an act of kindness and donate $5 (the amount for a cup of coffee) to help raise funds for 3D sensory equipment.
The Flagstaff Group is celebrating Giving Tuesday on several Tuesdays: the 5th, 12th and 19th May 2020. We are launching the “Donate a $5ver to Flagstaff” campaign. #GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and non-profits around the world.
Flagstaff is asking the community to support an act of kindness and donate $5 (the amount for a cup of coffee) to help raise funds for 3D sensory equipment. Donations can be made at The Flagstaff Group myCause donation page. Flagstaff is a registered charity with DGR status. All donations over $2 are tax deductable. If you cannot give funds, consider emailing our Events & Partnerships Coordinator Alyss Phillips to sign up as an volunteer for our future events!
Since COVID-19 and the fires in the Shoalhaven, Flagstaff has had to postpone a number of fundraising events which were raising funds for a sensory equipment at our Port Kembla and North Nowra locations.
Flagstaff’s Chief Executive Officer, Roy Rogers, said now more than ever charities such as Flagstaff need the communities support. “We have been open and operating during the last four weeks as disability supports are an essential service. We have just had to adjust the way we do things with a lot of programs now being delivered online.”
“One of the programs we would like to raise money for is 3D sensory equipment for a sensory room. The equipment aims to provide a person with a disability a calming environment that they can control. They can control the lighting, what they do, how they do it, the music and the pace. By using 3D technology, the person takes control of the situation and at this time of uncertainty, to have an escape place, somewhere calm and inviting is even more vital.”
Roy continued, “COVID-19 has seen people with a disability have to change their lifestyle. For some people, this has changed their behaviour. Many people with disability are out of routine, they are converting to online platforms, social distancing, not seeing families and friends and not understanding why. Please donate $5 and help us raise funds to help people with disability.”
